The District

The Historic River District runs from the courthouse square down to the Finley River. Many of these buildings are more than a century old. We’re working to better capture the stories from the past, while creating new ones for the future.

In 1999, Katherine Dowdy of Heritage Research Company documented the historic buildings of downtown Ozark building by building and that survey later helped bring the courthouse square onto the National Register of Historic Places. This map brings that work online in an interactive form, so anyone can explore the square and learn the history behind each building. We keep adding to it as new research comes in, and if you have a story, a photo, or a correction, we'd love to hear from you.
